Trademark Classes – Nice Classification

Singapore uses the International Classification of Goods and Services. There are 34 classes of goods and 11 classes of services under the Nice Agreement to which Singapore is a signatory. However, the class headings of the Nice Classification serve only as a guide as it provides general information about the types of goods and services which belong to each class. When you register for your trademark, you will need to state the exact class number and appropriate specification according to the Nice classification.

Nice Classification

The Nice Classification (NCL) is an international classification of goods and services applied for the registration of marks. According to WIP, use of the Nice Classification is mandatory not only for the national registration of marks in countries party to the Nice Agreement, but also for the international registration of marks effected by the International Bureau of WIP, the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), the Benelux Organization for Intellectual Property (BOIP) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The Nice Classification is also applied in a number of countries not party to the Nice Agreement.
